The 2021 Major League Baseball season is fast approaching and teams are starting to make decisions about fan participation. There will be no one-size-fits-all Major League Baseball plan. Instead, it’s up to each and every team. Most baseball teams have been working with their local government and health officials this year to enable a plan that will allow baseball fans to return to the ballpark in limited numbers.

However, the Texas Rangers announced a plan on Wednesday that is vastly different from other clubs. The Rangers plan to allow the fans to use full capacity to kick off the season. The Rangers allow 100 percent occupancy with masks that Globe Life Field fans need for their opening game on April 5 against the Blue Jays. The team will also allow full capacity for their last two exhibition games against the Brewers on March 29th and 30th. The Rangers will use “distant seating” for home games after the opening day.

“Rangers are encouraged that the governor’s office has given us approval to fully open Globe Life Field early in the 2021 Major League Baseball season,” said Neil Leibman, president of business operations and chief operating officer, in a press release on Wednesday. “We are going to require everyone who enters Globe Life Field to wear a mask or face covering, and we are working with Major League Baseball on some additional protocols necessary for the health and safety of the players. We will be the developments continue to monitor and implement the necessary public health measures. ” We’re excited that Rangers fans can finally experience everything Globe Life Field has to offer. “

Texas Governor Greg Abbott lifted the state’s mask mandate and gathering restrictions last week, despite health officials.

MLB outlined guidelines to allow fans back into the stadiums this year. At this point, social distancing and the wearing of masks are enforced, but no vaccine controls or negative COVID-19 test results are required.

The coronavirus pandemic forced the decision not to allow fans to play during the shortened 2020 regular season. Last year, however, up to 11,500 fans were allowed in each postseason game at Globe Life Field for the NLCS and World Series with a neutral location.
